How To Make A Shortcut For Your Desktop To Lock Your PC

If you are in the middle of using your PC, and need to leave your computer unattended for a bit, then you probably do not want someone showing up at your PC to view, or change something while your work is open. To cure this, make a shortcut to place on your desktop to lock the computer. When you lock the PC, the screen will appear similar to when you started the computer. It will prompt for a password instantly (provided that a password is used). When you return to your PC, you can enter the password, and resume your work. Here's how to create the shortcut. With all programs you have opened minimized, click with the right mouse button somewhere over your desktop where there are no icons, then choose "New", then "Shortcut". A dialog similar to the one below should appear

Click the "Shortcut" button, then you should see the dialog below ". Copy and paste the following command in the field below without the quotes "rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation".

Click "Next", then notice the dialog that appears below. Now, place a name for the shortcut in the field. Click "Finish", and your shortcut should appear on your desktop. Anytime you wish to lock your PC, just double-click on the shortcut.
